Man Stabbed, shot to Death in Car
Independence police are investigating the death of a 22 year old Blue Springs man who was found stabbed and shot after his car had slammed into the rear of a moving tractor-trailer truck aout 3:30a.m. today on Interstate 70.

Police said the dead man had a knife wound in the chest and 12 bullet wounds in his body when pulled from the car less than a mile west of the Blue Ridge Cutoff.

The man apparently was involved in an altercation at 1219 S. Windsor, Independence about 3a.m. said Capt. Robert Collins, Independence investigations commander Police were questioning a man who lives at the Windsor address.

Police withheld identification of the dead man until relatives could be notified. Kansas City police responded to the accident call and found the man dead.

The man’s car had struck a guardrail, bounced off and hit the rear of the westbound truck said Robert W. Peacock, a traffic specialist with the Kansas City Police department.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. there were no passengers in the car and the truck driver was not injured, he said.

The man who lives at the Windsor address also suffered stab wounds to the back, chest and upper left arm, Collins said. He was treated at the Independence Sanitarium.

Collins said a rifle and several knives were confiscated at the house. He declined further comment pending completion of the investigation.

Man Found Stabbed In Crash Identified
A man that was found dead of stabbing and gunshot wounds after his car slammed into the rear of a moving tractor-trailer truck Thursday on Interstate 70 has been identified as 22 year old Jeffery Alan Dittmer of Blue Springs.

Capt. Robert Collins of the Independence Police Department said Dittmer apparently was wounded early Thursday during an argument in Independence. Collins said he had been shot five times and stabbed once in the chest about 3a.m. at 1219 S. Windsor.

He said Dittmer was able to drive nearly five miles from the scene of the fight before his car hit the rear of the truck about 3:30a.m. on I-70 just West of Blue Ridge Cutoff.

Police said they had questioned a 22 year old man and later released him. Officers said they knew of no motive for the slaying.

Dittmer had been a salesman for the Gaslight Real Estate Corp. five years. He was a member of the Eastern Jackson Board of Realtors.

He graduated from Truman High School in 1975 and was a member of the Blue Springs First Baptist Church. He was born in Sedalia, MO, and had lived in this area most of his life.

He leaves his parents Mr. & Mrs. Joe Dittmer, a brother, Kyle Dittmer; all of Blue Springs, and his Paternal Grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Walter Dittmer, Concordia, MO.

Services will be at 11a.m. Saturday at the Blue Springs First Baptist Church; burial in the Blue Springs Cemetary. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Webb Freer Chapel, Blue Springs.
