Terry Don Prater, age 54, of Hamilton, MO, passed away on Feb. 8, 2012, at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe. He had formerly lived in Independence.

Terry was born on Aug. 6, 1957, in Frankfort, Germany, to Willard Von and Fern Decker Prater. He was a 1975 Truman High School graduate in Independence. Terry was a professional driver for Rooney Trucking in Polo. He had previously worked at Amico-Klemp in Liberty as a plant manager for 18 years, and had been the administrator of the Caldwell County Detention Center in Kingston.

Terry was a deacon and member of the River of Life Baptist Church in Cameron. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family, and he loved to swap and shop.
Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents; father-in-law, Dean Plummer and brother-in-law, Danny Harrison.
On Jan. 20, 1979, he married Lisa Harrison at the Faith Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include daughters, Melissa (Zach) Prater Hill of Hamilton and Stephanie (Dave) Nixdorf of Cameron; parents, Willard Von and Fern Prater of Lebanon; mother-in-law, Lola Plummer of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Chloe and Anthony Prater, Fisher and Hunter Nixdorf and Kylee Hill; sister, Karen Sue (Mark) Johnson of Independence; sisters-in-law, Teresa (Rod) Gilchrist of Prairie Village, KS and Debbie (Mike) Pankow of New Berlin, WI; brothers-in-law, Mike (Michelle) Plummer of Lee’s Summit and Matthew Plummer of Kansas City and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church Family Life Center. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, at the church. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
