Gregory “Greg” Alan Thate, 62, a resident of Florissant, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2019 at his home from cancer.  He was born June 10, 1957 in East St. Louis, IL to William and Doris (Brase) Thate.

Greg attended Luff Elementary, Palmer Jr. High and graduated from Fort Osage High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism/Business from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO.  He was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda (AKL) Fraternity and still is in touch with a few of his brothers.Greg was united in marriage to Jan Lassiter on April 12, 1980 in Independence, MO.  After working for several steel companies, Greg opened GTT Inc., his own steel trading company, in 1995.   He coached his son Michael’s baseball teams for 8 years.  Greg loved watching Michael play hockey and was his biggest fan and supporter. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan.

Survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Jan (Lassiter) Thate of Florissant, MO; son, Michael Thate and partner, Samantha Smith of O’Fallon, MO; granddaughter, Ruby Smith-Thate of O’Fallon, MO; mother, Doris Thate of Independence, MO, siblings, Terry Thate and wife Vickie of Kingsville, MO, Deanna Isenburg and husband Dave of Overland Park, KS, Cindy Hall and husband Jason of Grain Valley, MO, Jeff Thate and wife Beth of Washington, IL. He was preceded in death by his father William Thate Jr.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO.  Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2019 at the chapel.  Burial will immediately follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
